Stay Awake
DAY 6 — STAY AWAKE
“Therefore He says: ‘Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light.’ See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore, do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.”
Ephesians 5:14–17
Come Up Higher: Reject the slumber of the age.
Have you ever heard the saying, “He has become so spiritual, he is of no worldly good”? The reality is that many are so worldly that they are of no spiritual good. Consuming the things of this world may excite the flesh, but it lulls our spirit into an unholy slumber, dulling our senses and causing us to miss God.
When my children and grandchildren were babies, I could walk with a certain bounce and a rhythmic pat on their backs to cause them to drift off to sleep. The culture around us also has a certain rhythm, a certain movement that causes us to drift into spiritual sleep. It’s not new. We see in scripture that for generations, God has had to awaken His people by calling them out of the world and into deeper levels of consecration.
We all have a tendency to become distracted, to become comfortable, to lose urgency. But you have been called to stay awake, to live a consecrated life! 2 Corinthians 6:17 says, “Come out and be separate.” Find the Kingdom rhythm. Find the beating of His heart and lean in!
Prayer: “Father, awaken me! Make me sensitive to your heart. I want to understand your will so I can redeem the time with wisdom.”

Journal: How sensitive are you to God’s heart, His voice, His leading? Are you following the rhythm of this world or of His Kingdom? What might God be asking you to lay aside so that you can awaken to Him?
